Memories of the late, great Andrew Symonds were evoked when a nude man’s streak during a local cricket game was ended with a textbook takedown.
The crowd and commentators during the Mackay Cricket Association’s T20 final between Pioneer Valley and Walkerston were amused when the man ran naked, carrying his clothes, across the full length of the field Great Barrier Reef Arena on Saturday.

So brazen were the man’s actions, he ran straight through the pitch, forcing a break in play.
“Oh hello … Oh my God … We’ve got a streaker and I mean that in every single sense of the words,” the commentators said during a livestream of the game.
A club official from one of the teams gave chase but it was in vain.

“He’s not going to catch him at that rate because the nudie man is fairly quick,” a commentator said.
It wasn’t until the streaker made it across to the opposite boundary that he was stopped in his tracks.
A man watching the game came hurtling across a grassed spectator area to lay a substantial hit on the pitch invader.
“He’s just been cleaned up … Someone has taken him out,” the commentators said.

The man was subsequently convinced to put his clothes back on, before taking off again and leaving the guard in his dust.
“He’s off … done a runner … I think he might have got away too,” commentators said.
“The security guard’s had a stack there.”
One of fans’ fondest memories of Queensland great Symonds, who died in a car crash in May 2022, was at the Gabba during one of his 198 one-day internationals for Australia in 2008.

And during a one-day domestic match in 1997, Symonds was fielding for Queensland when he chased and brought down a pitch invader.
The man was able to get up from the tackle and evaded Symonds’ subsequent grasp.
